Where are they now: Two time eco challenge winner
This month at Sustainababy it's all about being Eco Inspirational, as we are celebrate 12 months of Eco Challenge success stories. In this series, Where are they now, we are catching up with our previous challenge winners to find out what they are up to.
Today we are catching up with Raelene Sutton, winner of not one but TWO eco challenges, the Choose Life Choose Organic and Nude Up challenges.
Sustainababy: Can you tell our Sustainababy e-Community a little bit about yourself Raelene?
Raelene: My family consists of my husband, myself and three kids. I have a five-year-old boy, three-year-old girl and an almost 4-month-old girl.
SB: Wow – that must really keep you busy! What do you get up to in your ‘spare’ time?
RS: We live in a home in the suburbs of Sydney. We have a few citrus trees and I attempt to grow some vegies. Unfortunately the peas and spinach haven't been too successful this year.
SB: How did you hear about the Sustainababy Eco Challenge?
RS: I heard about the eco challenges from a friend of mine who posted about the December challenge in a Facebook group. I had been trying to reduce the amount of rubbish we throw out, so a challenge to not use plastic bags, wraps and foil was great. I still have that roll of plastic wrap from December!
SB: You have been a champion and participated in all of the Eco Challenges since your first win. What has been your biggest challenge to date?
RS: My biggest challenge now is to trying to live with less, which was July's challenge. I do tend to buy things on sale and like to hoard. So I am trying very hard not to buy things that we do not need. Shopping online makes it so easy to buy things. I am also attempting to declutter the house of unnecessary things and giving good used items to charity.
SB: What are some of the Eco Challenge changes that you have been able to maintain?
RS: We have a compost bin for our vegie scraps. We also like to use eco friendly cleaning products around the house, especially with young children in the house.
We loved hearing how Raelene is traveling on her eco journey ~ Eco Inpsirational!
