We want the world to be a better place in the future, for our children and yours.
Sustainababy® is a one-stop eco parenting resource for parents who are concerned about their impact on our world. Run by a team of environmental professionals, we are your credible green parenting resource.
Sustainababy® stocks only quality sustainable, renewable and ethical goods and caters for premature babies, newborns, toddlers and children up to six years of age. We stock a comprehensive range of environmentally friendly products from nappies to teethers and pacifiers, clothing and bedding, bath products to furniture and toys.
We only sell products that meet our high standards and we don’t just stock items because they are organic. All our products are rigorously road-tested by parents to ensure they meet our high standards.
We are proudly Australian owned and operated and we try to ensure as many of our products as possible are locally made (i.e. made in Australia or New Zealand). This not only supports our local manufacturers but reduces the distance goods travel to the customer, thereby minimising emissions generated.
It’s important to walk-the-walk as well as talk-the-talk. For us, sustainability isn’t a trend, it is how we live. Along with the care we put into selecting the products we stock, we seek to reduce the environmental impact in all aspects of our operations.
We support Trees for Life through their Trees for Carbon and offer customers the choice to offset emissions from the delivery of their order using the DeliverGreen service. We are very proud to be the first Australian online store to provide this service.
We aim to minimise our resource consumption. We re-use packing materials for orders and where extra padding is required, biodegradable bubble wrap is used. Our gift wrapping service used 100% post consumer recycled paper and naturally dyed raffia. Our gift tags and pamphlets are printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper using vegetable-based inks.
About the founder
Sustainababy® is the brainchild of Laura Trotta (nee McIlwaine), a young mother and environmental professional. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (with 1st class honours), a Master of Science in Environmental Chemistry and has over ten years experience working as an environmental engineer reducing the environmental impact of large organisations. Laura also conducts volunteer energy assessments and sustainability audits in regional South Australia as part of the award-winning Outback Smart initiative and is a keen organic gardener, home cook and quilter in her spare time.
The motivation to start Sustainababy® came when Laura was pregnant with her son Matthew. She spent a lot of time researching and looking for sustainable clothes and products to buy for her unborn child. While they were all available, they were hard to find and not collected in the one place. Laura sought to provide this place where parents could shop with peace of mind.
Sustainababy® is a resource for other parents like Laura, who want to minimise their impact on the world while providing the best for their child.
